Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group enter areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.
