Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
