The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz about The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
